Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino praises his players for Saturday's "deserved" 2-1 win at home to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised his players for their performance in Saturday's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League.

Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert were both on target at St Mary's Stadium to boost the Saints' chances of survival.

"We thoroughly deserved this win over Chelsea," Pochettino told Sky Sports News.

"We played very well so we are really happy with the performance and the result. Victories give us confidence in the job that we are doing.

"They were both quality goals. They are both strikers and strikers live off scoring goals. It's important that they have confidence going into the remaining games."

The win has lifted Southampton four points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left to play.
