Preview: Spain vs. Netherlands

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Under-21 European Championship Group B clash between Spain and the Netherlands.

First position in Group B will be decided on Wednesday when Spain and the Netherlands meet in their final group match of the European Under-21 Championships in Israel.

Both sides have won their opening two matches of the competition, but the Netherlands sit top of the section with a better goal difference than the current holders.

Spain began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Russia, before a 1-0 success over Germany ensured their spot in the final four of the competition.

Netherlands, meanwhile, were 3-2 winners over Germany in their first match before thumping 10-man Russia on Sunday evening.

Spain have won seven of the previous 11 competitive meetings with the Netherlands, including four of the last five, while there has never been a draw in matches between these two sides at this level.

Spain are in the finals of the European Championships for the third successive edition. As mentioned before, they are the current holders of the competition having overcome Switzerland two years ago in Denmark.

The Netherlands are in the finals for the first time since 2007, although they did claim the title that year on home soil. Their only other appearance in the finals came in 1998, where they failed to make it past the group stages.

Spain could make changes having already secured their progress with Sergio Canales and Alvaro Morata expected to come into the team. Thiago will also continue with the armband, but Iker Muniain and Rodrigo could start on the bench.

Netherlands, meanwhile, are also expected to make changes as they prepare for the semi-finals. Skipper Kevin Strootman and Luuk de Jong are both expected to sit out, but Adam Maher is fit despite a reported Achilles injury.
