Harry Kane: 'I can't explain Euro 2016'

Harry Kane admits that he is at a loss to explain England's disappointing performance at Euro 2016 in France.

Harry Kane has admitted that he is at a loss to explain England's disappointing showing at Euro 2016 this summer.

The Three Lions crashed out of the tournament at the last-16 stage to minnows Iceland, a performance that cost manager Roy Hodgson his job and saw Kane in particular come in for criticism from fans.

The 23-year-old entered the Euros having had his best season in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt, winning the 2015-16 Premier League golden boot with 25 strikes across the campaign.

"If I said I had a good Euros I would be lying," Kane told The Sun. "It was a new experience for me and something I have to learn from and improve, but that's what I do.

"I always like to look back and see what I could have done better. But I still can't put my finger on what went wrong. The squad was optimistic going into the tournament, we started well and it just fell apart. It was one of those things.

"We all have to learn but I can't get too down about it. The new season is here and I have to be prepared. So there is no time to dwell."

In a tactic widely criticised by pundits and fans, Hodgson deployed Kane as primary taker of corner kicks, but Kane insisted that he did not question his manager's tactics at the time.

"It was the manager's choice and I always listens to the manager and follow instructions," he added.

"The issue got blown out of proportion a bit because we weren't winning games like we wanted to. But that's football. You have to be able to take the bad with the good."

Kane is expected to lead the line when Spurs open up their new Premier League campaign with a trip to Everton on Saturday.
