Harry Kane says that it was "embarrassing" for the Tottenham Hotspur players to be knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has admitted that it was "embarrassing" for the club's players to be knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their last-16 clash with Dinamo but lost 3-0 on the night to exit the competition, with the result following a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho's side bounced back against Aston Villa on Sunday, though, recording a 2-0 victory at Villa Park, and Kane was pleased that his side were able to recover from the back-to-back losses.

"Whenever you go through a couple of difficult games like we have, obviously a London derby then going out of the Europa League in that fashion was embarrassing for us as players," Kane told Sky Sports News.

"The only way we can give back to the fans, give back to the club, is to get back on the pitch and show what we are made of.

"The last couple of games have not been good enough in all areas. We knew we had to bounce back before the international break and the boys put in a great shift and we deserved it. You never want to go away with a loss, especially after the week we have had."

Kane scored his 27th goal of the season from the penalty spot against Villa.
