UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Lazio over alleged racist chanting towards Tottenham duo Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon during last night's Europa League stalemate.

UEFA have begun disciplinary proceedings against Lazio after a host of the club's fans were alleged to have shouted racist chants at Tottenham Hotspur players Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon.

It is understood that the pair were targeted by a handful of away fans at White Hart Lane during their stalemate in the Europa League group clash last night.

The European governing body were due to make a decision on whether to punish Lazio this afternoon after receiving reports from the match officials at the game.

A statement read: "UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against S.S. Lazio for the improper conduct of the club's supporters (racist behaviour) during the UEFA Europa League group stage match on Thursday 20 September between Tottenham Hotspur FC and the Italian side."

A decision is due to be reached on October 18.
