Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for Manchester City ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Manchester City made an early statement of intent in their quest for a third successive Premier League title when they began their latest defence with a 5-0 drubbing of West Ham United on Saturday.

Raheem Sterling's hat-trick ensured that he stole the headlines as the champions soared straight back to the top of the table, providing the perfect riposte to Liverpool's own big win the night before.

Despite the size of their win, Pep Guardiola was still not entirely satisfied with his side's performance and will be looking for an improvement when they host fellow title hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash.

Benjamin Mendy

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Norwich City)

The perennially-injured Mendy is a month or so away from a potential return following his latest knee setback. The full-back is now training with the team again, but must build his way back up to full fitness.

Fernandinho

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: August 17 (vs. Spurs)

Fernandinho has now recovered from the knee injury that dogged him during the Copa America and kept him out of the season opener, but he must build up his match fitness before returning to action.

Leroy Sane

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 29 (vs. Arsenal)

The only major issue for Man City during the early stages of the season was the ACL injury sustained by Leroy Sane in the Community Shield. The German winger, who had been linked with a move away from the club, could be sidelined for up to seven months.

Joao Cancelo

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: August 17 (vs. Spurs)

Despite being named on the bench against West Ham, Guardiola confirmed that Cancelo was not quite ready to feature having only just secured his move from Juventus. The full-back should be in serious contention next week, though.
