Andre Villas-Boas was interviewed for the manager's job at Burnley in 2010, the club's former chief executive reveals.

Burnley's former chief executive has confirmed that Andre Villas-Boas was interviewed by the club about the manager's position in 2010.

The Tottenham Hotspur head coach was at Academica at the time but Paul Fletcher has revealed that the 34-year-old could have taken charge at Turf Moor after Owen Coyle left the club.

However, Fletcher has claimed that Villas-Boas used language that would have been too complicated for Burnley players.

"Mickey Walsh, an old playing colleague of mine, got in touch with me to describe Andre as being a real up and coming hot prospect," Fletcher wrote in Magical: A Life In Football. "He sent a very detailed and lengthy application for the job. His CV and Powerpoint presentation were amazing.

"Even by today's standards there was some complicated stuff in it, with some things that I didn't understand.

"The language and jargon of football gets worse by the day. Villas-Boas uses a lot of it. Would Burnley players have ever understood what he wanted if he'd told them to 'solidificate' or some of his other terms?"

Villas-Boas is still awaiting his first victory as manager at White Hart Lane.
