Eric Dier describes teammate Hugo Lloris as "one of the best goalkeepers in the world" and says that everyone at Tottenham Hotspur "looks up to him".

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has admitted that he has been inspired to win major trophies by captain Hugo Lloris.

The France international goalkeeper was back in action for Spurs on Saturday afternoon, a month on from lifting the World Cup in Russia.

Dier reached the final four of the tournament with England, but the 24-year-old has stressed that only winning matters, with Tottenham going in search of their first silverware in more than a decade.

"He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he told reporters of teammate Lloris. "Everyone in the squad looks up to him. His style is a quiet style but silence is sometimes deadly.

"Hugo can be a changed man because Hugo won it. Everyone else, we're in the same boat. Only Hugo knows what it feels like because he won it and only winning it matters.

"England had a fantastic World Cup; we broke down many barriers. We managed to get to the semi-finals which was incredible but winning is the most important thing. Everyone else, back here at Tottenham, [we reached] the FA Cup semi-final last year but we need to go one step further and win."

Dier was one of nine Tottenham players to reach the last weekend of the World Cup, five of whom started the 2-1 win against Newcastle United at the weekend.
