Dermot Gallagher: 'Davinson Sanchez lucky to avoid red against Swansea City'

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher admits that Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez was lucky to avoid a red card against Swansea City.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has said that Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez should have been sent off against Swansea City on Tuesday night.

After already receiving a yellow card, Sanchez mistimed a challenge on Martin Olsson who would have advanced into a crossing position, but referee Bobby Madley instead only talked to the Colombian.

Spurs - who netted from an offside position for their first goal - would go on to complete a 2-0 win over the Welsh club, and Gallagher has questioned the decision-making of the official.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "Only Bobby knows. The ball is the giveaway for me. The ball is nowhere near the foul. If you are going to send someone off for a second yellow card, that is the perfect example.

"He chose the call the captain in, for whatever reason, and the player was then substituted. I think the pattern tells the story."

Had he been dismissed, Sanchez would have received a red card for the second time in the space of a month, having been sent off against Watford on December 2.
