Spurs boss Jose Mourinho: 'Troy Parrott not ready for first team'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho suggests that Troy Parrott will not be getting regular action in the first team for the foreseeable future.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has said that young forward Troy Parrott is "not ready" for regular action with the first team.

In the absence of the injured Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, Spurs fans have called for the 18-year-old to be provided with an opportunity down the middle of the attack.

However, the teenager was only used as a stoppage-time substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, a game which Spurs lost by a 3-2 scoreline.

Despite the Republic of Ireland international's cameo outing, Mourinho has told supporters not to expect the prospect to play much of a part in the senior group for the rest of the season.

The Portuguese told reporters: "He's not ready. He's not ready. He's a good kid we want to help, not only on the pitch but off it. He's a kid who's going to have real opportunity but when we decide it's right.

"He was on the bench because [Erik] Lamela said he was not ready to go on it. He was on the bench so for the past five minutes we brought him on to give some more space for Dele [Alli]."

Parrott has been given just six minutes of first-team football since Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in October.
