Mauricio Pochettino: 'No comparison between Tottenham, Manchester City'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that it is impossible to compare his side to the big-spending Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that it is impossible to compare his side to Manchester City ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash between the two teams.

Before this weekend's fixtures, Spurs found themselves second in the table behind only City, who have made a perfect start to their campaign under Pep Guardiola.

However, Pochettino pointed to the financial disparity between the two clubs, with City having splashed almost £175m during the summer compared to the £70m spent by Spurs.

"It's difficult to compare Spurs and Man City. You can see the budget, the salaries they pay and compare with Tottenham and it's very clear. They compare with United, Liverpool. We are in a project here and for that, Spurs is different," he told reporters.

"Remember when I arrived, my first season here. Compare that with Guardiola - how much he spent and how much I spent. We are in a very different project. I don't need to explain that.

"For us, it's important to build. In two years we build a different philosophy, a different project and build a new stadium. It is to settle the principles to be a big, big club. Our ambition is to be one of the biggest clubs in the world. You need time, it is a process."

Spurs won the corresponding fixture last season 4-1.
