Harry Redknapp: 'I thought England job was mine'

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp admits that he thought he would be offered the England job following Fabio Capello's departure last year.

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he thought he would be offered the England job when it became available last year.

Redknapp was widely tipped to take charge of the Three Lions following Fabio Capello's departure in February 2012, but the FA ultimately gave the job to Roy Hodgson.

The Queens Park Rangers boss recently revealed that he was so confident of bagging the job that he had already decided upon Brendan Rodgers as his assistant, reaching an agreement with the then-Swansea City manager to go to Euro 2012.

"I'll admit, I thought it was mine. Everyone seemed so certain, everyone I had met from all parts of the game seemed utterly convinced it was my job," Redknapp wrote in his autobiography, which is being serialised by the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Hodgson's England side are currently gearing up for a crucial World Cup qualifying double header against Montenegro and Poland.
