Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson insists that the controversy surrounding Danny Rose will not affect matters on the pitch.

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson has insisted that Danny Rose's recent interview controversy will not affect the team's form on the pitch.

Speaking to The Sun, Rose was critical of the club's transfer policy and wage structure, and admitted that he would be open to a move elsewhere.

Reports suggest that his revelations have led to dressing room unrest, but Dawson is adamant that the incident will not impact on results.

"Danny is a great lad and I played with him for many years at Tottenham," he told talkSPORT.

"Danny is not scared of voicing his opinion and he has said [sorry] about the timing, two days before the first game of the season. But looking at Spurs [last weekend], certainly when Newcastle went down to 10 men,

"The way they play when Christian Eriksen gets on the ball with Dele Alli running in behind... when they get into a flow, they're a joy to watch."

Spurs opened their Premier League account with a 2-0 win at Newcastle, with goals from Alli and Ben Davies.
