Tottenham Hotspur suffer a 2-0 friendly defeat to a strong Valencia side at the Mestalla Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 friendly defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium in a game filled with incident this evening.

Spurs started strongly but fell behind to a fantastic strike from Jonas on 18 minutes.

The Brazilian ran at Tottenham's defence before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 25 yards.

Valencia dominated the remainder of the first half, forcing Brad Friedel into action on a number of occasions.

Spurs improved in the second half, with Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Gylfi Sigurdsson showing encouraging form for manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Valencia made the game safe with 15 minutes left, Sofiane Feghouli beating Jan Vertonghen and smashing home from close range.

Spurs were unable to find a late reply despite the Spanish side being reduced to 10 men, with Tino Costa dismissed after a heated confrontation with the referee.
