Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas reportedly decides that five of his first-team players are surplus to requirements after closely observing them during pre-season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly ready to begin a mass clear-out this week, with four senior internationals included among the players up for sale.

The 34-year-old Portuguese, who took charge at White Hart Lane 35 days ago, was keen to give the whole squad a chance to prove themselves during the club's pre-season schedule.

According to the Daily Mail, Villas-Boas has now seen enough to decide that David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas, Sebastien Bassong, William Gallas and Kyle Naughton are all surplus to requirements.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign away at Newcastle United on Saturday August 18.
