Gary Mabbutt expects Gareth Bale to stay put at Tottenham Hotspur

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Mabbutt is confident that if Spurs secure Champions League football for next season, Gareth Bale will stay at the club.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Mabbutt believes that the North London club will be able to keep hold of star winger Gareth Bale in the summer.

The Wales international, who has been in prolific form this season, has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, but Mabbutt is confident that if Spurs keep their place in the top four of the table, Bale will opt to stay.

"Gareth has a very close family around him, he signed a new four year contract at the start of the season, he is enjoying his football and if Tottenham end up in the top four and with Champions League football, then I think he will have everything he desires at the moment," Mabbutt told BBC Radio Five Live.

Bale, who has scored 12 goals in 13 games, netted the winner in stoppage time during last night's 3-2 win over West Ham United to move Tottenham into third place.
