Tottenham Hotspur announce that Serge Aurier leaves the club by mutual consent.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that defender Serge Aurier has terminated his deal in North London.

The former Paris Saint-Germain full-back was due to become a free agent in 2022 and was pushed down the Tottenham pecking order following the arrival of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.

With Matt Doherty also seeking to re-establish his fruitful relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo, Aurier revealed earlier this year that he was planning to leave Spurs in the not-so-distant future.

Now, Tottenham have confirmed that Aurier has left the club by mutual consent, with the defender telling tottenhamhotspur.com: "I have really enjoyed my time at Spurs and would like to thank the club and the fans, but I feel now is the right time for me to move onto a new challenge."

Aurier was linked with a return to PSG before the French giants swooped for Achraf Hakimi, and the 28-year-old leaves Tottenham having scored eight goals and set up 17 more in 110 appearances for the club.

The right-back only started 19 games in the 2020-21 Premier League, though, while he is yet to make an appearance in any competition this season.
