Son Heung-min says that he wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur after just one season at the club.

Son Heung-min has revealed that he wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur after just one season at the club.

Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 and scored eight times in 40 appearances for the Premier League side during the 2015-16 campaign.

The 26-year-old, however, has revealed that he "came close to leaving" the London club after just one season as he 'wanted to return to the Bundesliga'.

Son ultimately stayed in the English capital, though, and has since become a key figure for Tottenham, already managing 16 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances this term.

"I came close to leaving," Son told the London Evening Standard. "I went to the gaffer's office and told him I didn't feel comfortable and wanted to leave for Germany.

"The gaffer (Mauricio Pochettino) trusted me and I am so grateful. He made my dream come true. I am more than grateful [to him] - it is difficult to say. I have worked four years with the gaffer. It is just amazing."

Son is the top Asian goalscorer in Premier League history, having netted 41 times in the top flight of English football.
