Toby Alderweireld: 'I'm happy at Tottenham Hotspur'

Defender Toby Alderweireld says he has told head coach Mauricio Pochettino that he remains happy at Tottenham Hotspur, despite speculation over his future.

Defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he has reassured head coach Mauricio Pochettino that he is "focused" on his football.

Alderweireld has made a huge impact at Spurs since joining the club in 2015, but the Belgian international has less than two years remaining on his current deal and Spurs are said to be wary of triggering a £25m release clause in his contract, which will come into effect if they opt for a 12-month extension.

However, Alderweireld has suggested that he is keen to remain in North London, despite the uncertainty surrounding his immediate future at the Premier League club.

The 28-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I had a good conversation with the manager. I told him I'm focused on football, to keep my game up and help the team.

"That's all I can do. You can see I'm happy there, and I try to help the team, and that's the way I always play football."

Alderweireld has been an ever-present in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.
