Steven Fletcher: Gus Poyet got "positive reaction" out of me

Sunderland frontman Steven Fletcher admits that Gus Poyet "got a positive reaction" out of him following his recent omission from the squad.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher has revealed that he was "angry" after he was recently dropped by manager Gus Poyet.

The Scotland international was omitted from the squad that drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur last month, but he returned during the weekend's 3-1 win over Stoke City to score two goals.

Speaking about Poyet's decision to leave him out, Fletcher has admitted that his boss "got a positive reaction" from him.

"You want to play every game. If you are not playing, you at least want to be on the bench, so I am not going to say I was happy about it. I was angry," he told the Sunderland Journal.

"I think I have proved I should have been somewhere near the squad, so hopefully that will continue. The manager wanted a reaction and he got a positive reaction, which was good."

Those goals were Fletcher's first for Sunderland since December 2013.
