Sunderland manager David Moyes says that he has the backing of chairman Ellis Short, despite the club sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has said that he has the backing of chairman Ellis Short, despite reports suggesting that he only has one game to save his job.

It has been claimed that Moyes could be sacked if Sunderland fail to win for an 11th successive Premier League game when they travel to Bournemouth this weekend, but the Scot has insisted that there is no indication from the club's hierarchy that his job is in any danger.

The 53-year-old told reporters: "I speak to the owner quite regularly, I speak to him on the phone, I have seen him this week and it's all fine.

"I think when you are at the bottom and losing, [reports] are going to happen. That's the world of football management. It comes with the territory.

"Ellis is very good, Martin Bain is very good. We understand the job that we have to do here and as we said right at the start, it's not short-term that's for sure."

Sunderland currently sit eight points adrift of safety in the league table.
