Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill believes that Lee Cattermole's performances this season should have earned the midfielder an England call-up.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has claimed that Lee Cattermole should have been called up to Stuart Pearce's England squad for Wednesday's friendly against the Netherlands.

Striker Fraizer Cambell is the only representative for the Black Cats in the 25-man party for the match at Wembley Stadium.

"Some of our players have been in good form," O'Neill told reporters. "Certainly, Cattermole is playing well enough to have been given consideration.

"He's been really excellent and gives us that bit extra there in the middle of midfield."

Sunderland travel to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League later today (Saturday).
