Martin O'Neill admits that Sunderland want to finish in the top half of the table.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has said that his side want to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season.

O'Neill, who took over with the Black Cats struggling at the bottom of the league, has led his side up the table following his arrival at the Stadium of Light. As a result, the Northern Irishman insists that Sunderland's season can be considered a success, regardless of their final position.

"We want to finish in the top half of the table," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"A win over Wolves this weekend will help in that direction. But wherever we finish this season I'll look back on this campaign feeling delighted.

"I'm still keen to see us pick up more points and I want us to go out looking to win each game. But I'm delighted that for a long time now we've been looking up the table and not down it."

Meanwhile, Sunderland host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.
