Swansea City's Lukasz Fabianski: 'Red card was harsh'

Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski believes that his red card against West Ham United was a 'harsh' decision.

Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has claimed that he was "harshly treated" by referee Chris Foy after he was sent off for impeding West Ham United's Diafra Sakho in yesterday's defeat at Upton Park.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper was given a straight red card for fouling Sakho during an apparent goalscoring opportunity in the 68th minute of the match, which eventually ended 3-1 to the Hammers.

"Obviously there was some contact, but I did not try to stop him, he ran into me," Wales Online quotes Fabianski as saying. "Anyway he helped himself with his hand to push the ball forward.

"You can see the referee's point of view, it is difficult for him. If I am the last man and if there is contact, it should be a straight red, but I think in this case the maximum was a yellow.

"I do feel a bit harshly treated to be honest. It's not like he was in full control of the ball. It's not like he ran past me and I grabbed him and brought him down."

Swansea manager Garry Monk is hopeful that the club will appeal the decision.
