Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins believes that the club's position in Europe will ensure that manager Michael Laudrup stays in Wales.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins is confident that manager Michael Laudrup has enough incentive to stay at the Liberty Stadium for a lengthy period of time.

The Danish boss, who was linked to Real Madrid, signed a new contract with the Welsh outfit following their League Cup win over Bradford City.

While the Swans have lost the likes of Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers in the past, Jenkins believes competing in Europe will ensure that Laudrup stays put.

"Sometimes people do look for another challenge when they think they have achieved all they can at their current club," thisissouthwales.co.uk quotes Jenkins as saying. "We have had to cope with that in the past, I think those reasons were important to some of our previous managers.

"But we are in Europe now and I think that gives us momentum for next season. Qualifying for Europe is a massive think I think in terms of keeping everything together, it gives Michael a new challenge and it's a new challenge for new players."

The Swans are currently ninth in the Premier League table.
