Bob Bradley "confident" Gylfi Sigurdsson will stay at Swansea City

Swansea City manager Bob Bradley admits that retaining Gylfi Sigurdsson is key to his side's hopes of survival, and is optimistic of keeping him in place.

Bob Bradley has said that he is "confident" Gylfi Sigurdsson will remain a part of his Swansea City plans beyond the end of the current season.

The Iceland international has once again been a key player for the Swans this term, scoring five goals and assisting five more in the Premier League to help his side to some valuable points.

Sigurdsson only signed a four-year contract with the Welsh outfit in August, but a string of impressive displays in what has been a disappointing campaign for Swansea on the whole has led to talk of a move away in January.

Bradley does not expect that to be the case, though, and is hopeful that the 27-year-old can continue providing the ammunition to help drag City out of the relegation zone and to safety.

"We're confident he is going to be part of our team," he told reporters. "Gylfi's been terrific for us and I'm sure there are many clubs taking notice, but from our standpoint we consider him important as we move forward.

"We are confident that he's still going to be a part of our team in the second part of the season and beyond because, for us to improve week to week and have a longer-term vision of how we can move forward, a player like Gylfi is a vital part of our vision."

Sigurdsson has played a part in 47% of Swansea's 45 top-flight goals this calendar year, with 14 of his own and a further seven assists.
