Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that he is unlikely to play in a World Cup again after his country lost their Brazil 2014 playoff with Portugal.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker's brace was in vain as his fellow Ballon d'Or nominee Cristiano Ronaldo struck a treble for the visitors in Stockholm to see them 4-2 winners on aggregate.
Ibrahimovic will be 36 when the 2018 World Cup is held and he therefore has confessed that tonight's playoff was probably his last chance to secure another chance to play on football's grandest stage.
"It was probably the last attempt to reach the World Cup with the national team for me," he told reporters.
"Congratulations to Portugal, but both teams deserved to get to the World Cup, but the disappointment is great as a World Cup in Brazil is now only a dream for Sweden."
Ibrahimovic has scored 50 goals in 97 international appearances since debuting in 2001, and has represented Sweden at the 2002 World Cup and three European Championships.
