Sunday's League Two predictions including Walsall vs. Newport

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League Two fixtures, including Walsall vs. Newport County.

Bromley vs. Swindon (Sunday, 12.30pm)

Bromley and Swindon Town are set to meet for the very first time when they take to the pitch at Hayes Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts are relishing their debut season in League Two, riding the wave of an impressive 10-match unbeaten run in the league which has put them just four points adrift of the final playoff spot, keeping their dreams of a remarkable campaign alive.

We say: Bromley 2-1 Swindon Town

Swindon have demonstrated resilience in recent weeks, but given Bromley's impressive form, the task may prove too daunting for the visitors, particularly considering their poor away record, and for this reason, we are predicting that the hosts will edge this encounter.

Carlisle vs. Accrington (Sunday, 12.30pm)

Two teams in the trenches of the League Two table will hope to win a relegation six-pointer when Carlisle United welcome Accrington Stanley to Brunton Park on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams head into this game on identical winless streaks, having both failed to win any of their last six matches in League Two.

We say: Carlisle United 1-1 Accrington Stanley

When two struggling teams go head-to-head, there is often a sense of opportunity for both sides to go all out in pursuit of maximum points – however, we believe this clash is more likely to end in a stalemate, given that both teams have been lacking sharpness in front of goal recently.

Bradford vs. Chesterfield (Sunday, 3.00pm)

With just three points separating them, Bradford City will aim to draw level with Chesterfield – and potentially leapfrog them in the League Two standings – when the two sides meet at Northern Commercials Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams arrive at this fixture in contrasting form – the hosts have claimed two wins in their last three League Two matches, while the visitors are looking to recover after their three-match winning streak was abruptly halted on Boxing Day.

We say: Bradford City 2-1 Chesterfield

Bradford's campaign has been driven by their strong home form this season, and we believe they will have too much for Chesterfield to contend with, considering the visitors' recent struggles on the road, which is why we are predicting a win for the hosts.

Cheltenham vs. Notts County (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Notts County can end the year in a League Two playoff position with a victory at Whaddon Road on Sunday versus Cheltenham Town.

The Robins did Notts a favour this week by defeating Crewe Alexandra 2-1, moving them up to 14th in the table, while the Nottingham side sit seventh following a 2-0 triumph against MK Dons.

We say: Cheltenham Town 2-1 Notts County

Cheltenham are getting their act together, and we have confidence they will continue to ride their strong home form to another three points on Sunday.

Colchester vs. Doncaster (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Colchester United can claim consecutive League Two triumphs for the first time all season when they host Doncaster Rovers on Sunday at Colchester Community Stadium.

The U's are coming off a 2-0 victory over Gillingham earlier this week, putting them 15th in the table, while Rovers' title aspirations took a hit, losing 2-0 versus Walsall, dropping them down to third.

We say: Colchester United 0-1 Doncaster Rovers

Throughout the campaign, Doncaster have proven to be a resilient bunch, recovering quickly from a defeat, and we believe they will put forth another solid bounce-back performance this weekend.

Fleetwood vs. Harrogate (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Fleetwood Town can win consecutive League Two home fixtures for the first time all season as they end 2024 by hosting Harrogate Town on Sunday from Highbury Stadium.

On Boxing Day, the Cod Army jumped to 16th in the table thanks to a 2-0 victory over Chesterfield, while Harrogate are 20th, following a narrow 2-1 defeat at Grimsby Town.

We say: Fleetwood Town 1-0 Harrogate Town

Fleetwood are coming off a strong defensive showing and will be keen to impress their new boss once again, which is why we expect they will end the year positively.

Grimsby Town vs. Port Vale (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Round 23 of the 2024-25 League Two season pits promotion hopefuls Grimsby Town and Port Vale against each other in Sunday's meeting at Blundell Park.

Albeit off the back of contrasting results last time out, both teams have enjoyed relatively decent starts to the current campaign ahead of its midway point this weekend.

We say: Grimsby Town 1-1 Port Vale

The away side are on a rough patch at the moment, presenting the hosts with an opportunity to continue their dominance in this fixture.

However, we are backing a share of the spoils with honours even at the sound of the full-time whistle.

MK Dons vs. Crewe (Sunday, 3.00pm)

Crewe Alexandra manager Lee Bell on August 3, 2024© Imago

MK Dons will be aiming to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions when they host Crewe Alexandra in a League Two fixture at Stadium MK on Sunday.

The two sides are separated by six places, with the Dons sitting fourth in the table having amassed 35 points, while the visitors are further down in 11th place with 30 points.

We say: MK Dons 1-1 Crewe Alexandra

Although the visitors have fared better than the hosts this season, their inability to secure a victory at Stadium MK since April 2021 could be the impetus the home team needs to go all out for an outright win.

However, the decent away results of the visiting team cannot be overlooked. Thus, we reckon this match will end in a 1-1 draw.

Salford City vs. Morecambe (Sunday, 3.00pm)

In-form Salford City will be aiming to claim their fourth consecutive win in League Two at the Peninsula Stadium when they host Morecambe in Sunday's gameweek 23 encounter.

The visiting side head into the fixture with a solitary win in their last six matches in all competitions, a record they will be looking to improve before the turn of the year.

We say: Salford City 2-0 Morecambe

Salford have been enjoying a fine run of form, which is highlighted by three consecutive wins at home.

Furthermore, the hosts have emerged victorious in their last three meetings at the Peninsula Stadium.

Therefore, the Ammies could claim a 2-0 win on Sunday.

Tranmere vs. Barrow (Sunday, 3.00pm)

After the postponement of their Boxing Day League Two clash against Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers welcome Barrow to Prenton Park for their matchday 24 encounter.

Thursday's fixture was called off due to foggy weather over Merseyside, with the match scheduled for 3pm but cancelled about an hour before kickoff.

We say: Tranmere Rovers 1-1 Barrow

Both sides have struggled this season, with their inefficiency in the final third hindering the prospect of a high-scoring encounter.

Although the hosts have enjoyed more success in this fixture recently, their home record of just three wins from 10 games offers little assurance of securing all three points.

Walsall vs. Newport (Sunday, 3.00pm)

The final League Two gameweek of the calendar year sees table-topping Walsall aiming for a sixth consecutive win as they welcome Newport County to Poundland Bescot Stadium this weekend.

The Saddlers extended their lead at the summit to nine points with an impressive 2-0 victory over promotion rivals Doncaster Rovers on Boxing Day, while the visitors remain 18th in the standings following a crushing 5-2 defeat to Bromley.

We say: Walsall 2-0 Newport County

Walsall head into this encounter in high spirits, having secured six consecutive wins across all competitions while boasting the league's best attack.

Overcoming a struggling Newport side, who have suffered seven defeats in their last 11 matches across all competitions, should not pose a daunting task for the hosts.
