Report: Gianfranco Zola on top of Bologna shortlist

Former Watford manager Gianfranco Zola could reportedly be offered a quick return to management if Serie A outfit Bologna opt to sack under-fire boss Stefano Pioli.

Former Watford boss Gianfranco Zola could be poised for a quick return to management after apparently emerging as a top target for Serie A strugglers Bologna.

The ex-Chelsea forward is a week out of work having surprisingly quit his post at the Hornets, whom he guided to the Championship playoff final last season.

He decided to walk away from Vicarage Road with the promotion hopefuls in the bottom half of the table, but The Mirror claims that Zola may not be unemployed for long, with Bologna considering him as a replacement for the under-fire Stefano Pioli, who has been in charge since October 2011.

The Stadio Renato Dall'Ara outfit are 17th in the league, having won just one of their last seven matches, and their owners are reportedly contemplating a change in the dugout by offering Zola a return to Italy in a professional capacity for the first time since his playing retirement in 2005.

Zola has also been linked with the vacancy at Premier League club West Bromwich Albion.
