West Bromwich Albion's Gareth McAuley 'relieved' with "massive" win over Villa

Gareth McAuley admits that he and his West Bromwich Albion teammates are 'relieved' to have ended their five-game winless run against Aston Villa.

West Bromwich Albion defender Gareth McAuley has admitted that it was a "big relief" to gain victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Alan Irvine's side ended a winless run of five games with a 1-0 triumph over Villa at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

"There is no hiding, it was a massive win for us," McAuley told the club's official website. "It was big for everyone, it is such an important game and we were desperate to win it.

"It's a big relief but also a result which the supporters will love, getting one over their local rivals and it is no different for the players."

The Baggies are currently 14th in the Premier League table.
