West Ham United call 'emergency meeting' following Burnley defeat

West Ham United call an emergency meeting after crowd trouble and fierce protests marred their 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Burnley.

West Ham United have called an emergency meeting following the ugly scenes which marred their Premier League clash with Burnley at the London Stadium this afternoon.

Hammers supporters reacted angrily to watching their side slump to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Clarets, with police reporting four separate pitch invasions and two counts of assault.

West Ham captain Mark Noble threw one of the pitch invaders to the ground, while two more were frogmarched off the field by James Collins and another was tripped by Burnley striker Ashley Barnes.

There was also unrest in the stands as home supporters clashed with each other and congregated in numbers below the directors' box to protest against co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

The Telegraph reports that supporters threw missiles and made throat-slitting gestures towards the duo, eventually forcing them to vacate their seats five minutes before full time.

The toxic atmosphere inside the stadium also led to Burnley's staff allowing children to sit in the dugout in order to get them out of the stands due to the escalating anger amongst the West Ham fans.

The club's board have now called an emergency meeting to discuss the issues, with Saturday's defeat leaving the Hammers just three points clear of the relegation zone.
