Trevor Sinclair: 'Dimitri Payet is a spoiled brat'

Former West Ham United winger Trevor Sinclair calls Dimitri Payet "a spoiled brat" after the playmaker orchestrated a return to Marseille.

Former West Ham United winger Trevor Sinclair has called Dimitri Payet "a spoiled brat" after the playmaker left the Hammers for former club Marseille.

Earlier this month, Payet expressed a desire to leave West Ham - just months after penning a lucrative long-term deal - and the East London outfit initially insisted that he would not be allowed to leave in January.

However, a transfer was eventually finalised for a fee in the region of £25m, but Payet has angered West Ham supporters by claiming that he "does not have to justify his decision".

Sinclair - who played for West Ham between 1998 and 2003 - feels that Payet has "ruined his legacy" at the club after his conduct over the past few weeks.

In a Facebook live interview with Match of the Day, the 43-year-old said: "We are all annoyed, the player, fans, teammates, the club, but I think West Ham have handled the Dimitri Payet situation really well. They've sold him for £25m, two-and-a-half times the money they paid.

"He was an amazing player, but he's ruined his legacy, he's acted like a spoiled brat, and once the dust settles he might look back and think he's burned a few bridges there. He showed glimpses of Paolo Di Canio when he was at West Ham, and a lot of that has been wasted."

West Ham replaced Payet by signing Robert Snodgrass from Hull City.
