Wigan Athletic beat deadline to loan Leon Clarke from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wigan beat the transfer deadline to sign striker Leon Clarke on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season.

Wigan Athletic have loaned striker Leon Clarke from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old made the cross-Championship switch with only minutes left in the winter transfer window.

He becomes Malky Mackay's third signing of the day, following the arrivals of Cameroonian defender Gaetan Bong and Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo.

Clarke has started just 11 games for Wolves since joining from Coventry City for £750,000 last January.

His year-long spell at the Sky Blues was the most prolific of his career as he scored 28 goals in 43 appearances.
