Wolverhampton Wanderers confirm the arrival of 21-year-old midfielder Boubacar Traore on a season-long loan from Metz, with an option to buy.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the arrival of Boubacar Traore on a season-long loan from Metz.

The 21-year-old central midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Metz last term, earning plaudits for his performances despite his side ultimately suffering relegation to Ligue 2.

Wolves have now secured Traore on a temporary deal for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, while they have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season should they choose.

It is understood that the fee to make the deal permanent next summer would be around €11m (£9.5m).

"Our recruitment team have been monitoring Boubacar for some time and have been thoroughly impressed by his output in Ligue 1 over the past 12 months, his continued development as a young player and his consistent impact upon games," Wolves technical director Scott Sellars told the club's official website.

"We are delighted to secure another one of our main targets and we look forward to welcoming him to Compton Park and Molineux, integrating him into the team and watching him continue his development in the Premier League."

The Mali international will not be available to make his Wolves debut during Saturday's Premier League clash with Southampton as he will only join up with his new teammates next week.

However, he could feature when Bruno Lage's side visit Anfield to take on Liverpool on Saturday, September 10.
