Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth wins League Two Manager of the Month award

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth is named the League Two Manager of the Month for January thanks to four wins from four and a rise to second in the table.

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth has been named the League Two Manager of the Month for January.

The 44-year-old steered the Chairboys to four wins from four, including a 3-2 win away at league leaders Luton Town, to rise to second in the table.

Ainsworth, whose side scored 11 goals in January, also made a number of shrewd loan signings to combat a lengthy injury list.

"This award is for the boys really," Ainsworth told the EFL website. "The manager picks the team and they go out there, but once they cross that white line; they do the job, so I'm really proud of the boys, we're on a good run at the moment and I couldn't do it without them.

"I think being the player that I was, a forward player, an attacking winger, I try to manage as I played, no holds barred attacking formations, getting at teams.

"We sacrifice the odd goal at the back for that, but scoring goals is what people want to see, it's the way to win games and we addressed that a couple of years ago and I'm glad to say it's been paying off in droves for the last two seasons."

Mansfield Town boss Steve Evans, Swindon Town head coach David Flitcroft and Crawley Town manager Harry Kewell were also in the running for the award.
