The Chairboys took the lead on the night after just seven minutes played as Luke McCormick failed to connect cleanly with an inswinging corner, allowing Paul Hayes to turn and slam the ball home from close range.

Plymouth continued to be under the cosh and had their goalkeeper to thank for a number of saves from Aaron Holloway and Hayes, but could not prevent falling further behind in the 35th minute.

The Pilgrims were once again undone by a dead ball as Joe Jacobson's corner was headed in powerfully by Alfie Mawson, McCormick flapping at the set piece after making an impressive save from Sam Saunders moments earlier.

John Sheridan's charges were brighter after the restart and saw Jason Banton strike the bar midway through the second half before Ryan Brunt halved the deficit on the night in the 71st minute with a cheeky backheel into the net.

Both sides continued to trade chances, but with Wycombe holding a two-goal advantage on aggregate, they were confidently able to see the game out and book their place in the final.
