Sebastian Vettel plays down Ferrari's pre-season form

Sebastian Vettel refuses to get carried away with Ferrari's pre-season performances amid suggestions that the Italian team could threaten Mercedes's dominance in 2015.

Sebastian Vettel has claimed that Ferrari remain realistic over its chances of success during the 2015 season despite showing good form in pre-season testing.

The German topped the timesheets twice in four days of testing at Jerez and has continued to show pace during the second test at Barcelona, which has led to rival drivers, including former Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo, saying that the Scuderia will be a threat.

However, Vettel is not getting carried away with notions of the Italian constructor challenging for titles.

He told reporters: "I would rather wait and see, it depends much more where you are at the races.

"Mercedes was strongest last year at the test, but if I asked you two years ago who had the strongest impression in testing, it might be very different to [who was quickest at] the first race.

"As I said it is impossible to read but this year [there are] fuel loads, engine updates... we don't know what people will bring, introducing [parts] at the second, third, fourth [race]. Everyone has their own plans but it's difficult to know."

The new season starts at the Australian Grand Prix on March 15.
