Red Bull driver Max Verstappen wins the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, overcoming a valiant effort from McLaren's Lando Norris.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has extended his Championship lead with victory at the British Grand Prix.

The improvements made to the McLaren meant that Verstappen's afternoon was not all plain-sailing, a different dynamic to the most recent races.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman was ultimately able to cruise to yet another win, a late safety car failing to prevent him from overcoming Lando Norris.

To the delight of the home crowd, Norris beat Verstappen to the first corner and led the Grand Prix for the opening five laps, only for the runaway frontrunner in the title race to soon get his nose back in front.

While Norris kept Verstappen in his sights throughout, he was never close enough to threaten an overtake of his own, leaving him to focus on trying to achieve second.

McLaren made a polarising decision to go with the hard tyres for their last stint, one which was not initially welcomed by Norris, but they showed impressive speed to fend off the challenge of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton who finished in third.

Australia's Oscar Piastri sealed his best result in Formula 1 by holding onto fourth in the second McLaren, forcing George Russell to settle for fifth spot.

Red Bull's Sergio Perez recovered from 15th on the grid to earn sixth ahead of Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Williams' Alex Albon.

However, it was a disappointing day for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr had to settle for ninth and 10th position respectively.

In terms of the title race, Verstappen now holds a 99-point lead over Perez, while Hamilton closed the gap on third-placed Alonso to 16 points.

Sainz Jr, Russell and Leclerc are separated by just nine points from fifth to seventh, but Norris is still only ninth despite his performance this weekend.
