Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race for Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel, with Spurs seeing a £50m bid for the Frenchman accepted.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a £50m deal with Bayern Munich for attacker Mathys Tel.

The 19-year-old is said to be attracting plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal this month.

Tel has been on the fringes of the first-team plans at the Allianz Arena under the stewardship of former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany this season.

The forward has made just eight appearances in the Bundesliga, starting only two matches, totalling a mere 253 minutes of top-flight action.

That being said, there was a rare start for Tel during the Champions League on Wednesday night, when Bayern Munich beat tournament minnows Slovan Bratislava 3-1.

Tottenham, Bayern Munich agree £50m deal for Tel?

According to ESPN, Tottenham are currently leading the hotly-contested race for the services of Bayern Munich man Tel during the winter window.

The report states that Spurs and the Bundesliga giants have agreed on the £50m transfer of the 19-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is understood that Tel has decided to leave Allianz Arena this month, with Bayern willing to sanction the departure at a suitable price.

Although Ange Postecoglou's men have shaken hands with the Germans over a fee, there are still boxes to be ticked before the winger is unveiled in North London.

Firstly, Tel is yet to pledge his allegiance to the Spurs, with the France Under-21 international waiting to receive official offers from other interested parties.

Where would Tel fit at Spurs?

After a shock 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Leicester City last weekend, Spurs are languishing down in 15th spot in the Premier League standings.

As a result, it is undeniable that Tottenham require significant arrivals during the remainder of the winter window to fuel their hopes of a top-half finish.

With the ability to play anywhere across the forward line, Tel could be a useful player for under-pressure Postecoglou, whose first-team squad has been decimated by injuries this season.

The Lilywhites are currently battling on without the services of a host of key attackers, including Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Timo Werner.
