Tiger Woods has revealed his disappointment with missing the opportunity to make progress in the Open Championship on Friday.
Despite narrowly avoiding being cut from the competition at the halfway stage, a 77 in his second round leaves Woods trailing leader Rory McIlroy by 14 shots heading into the weekend.
"It was not a very good round," the 38-year-old told reporters. "I got off to a terrible start again. I had some opportunities to get back to even par for the day but I just never did, I never made anything.
"Luckily I have two rounds to go and maybe I can do something like Paul Lawrie did in 1999 and make up 10 shots in one day."
Woods recorded victory in his last appearance at Hoylake in 2006.
