Graeme McDowell, Jordan Spieth to open Ryder Cup singles

Graeme McDowell will play Jordan Spieth in the opening Ryder Cup singles match on Sunday as Europe search for the four points that they require to retain the Ryder Cup.

Europe captain Paul McGinley has selected Graeme McDowell to open up his side's bid to retain the Ryder Cup in Sunday's singles action.

The Northern Irishman, who has partnered Victor Dubuisson to two points on Friday and Saturday, will play American rookie Jordan Spieth.

Dubuisson will tee off last against Zach Johnson as the hosts look for the four points that they require to retain the trophy that they won in Medinah two years ago.

Henrik Stenson is out second against Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy follows against Rickie Fowler while form player Justin Rose will play Hunter Mahan.

The other stand-out tie sees home favourite Stephen Gallacher face Phil Mickelson.
