US Open champion Brooks Koepka out of Masters

US Open champion Brooks Koepka withdraws from this year's Masters due to a wrist injury.

Last year's US Open champion Brooks Koepka has been forced to withdraw from The Masters as he continues his recovery from a wrist injury.

The 27-year-old has missed all of the 2018 season to date after tearing a tendon in his wrist during his first event of the campaign, Hawaii's Sentry Tournament of Champions in January.

The world number nine has only just begun light practice sessions and shook his head when asked by a reporter on Tuesday if he would be fit enough to compete at Augusta next month.

"They said I would be about 80%, but I can't play 80%," he is quoted as saying by USA Today. "I either have to go full bore or not at all. I don't want to risk getting it re-injured and then be out a long time."

This year's Masters gets underway on Thursday, April 5, with Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods among the favourites.
