Sergio Garcia pulls out of BMW PGA Championship with knee injury

Sergia Garcia pulls out of the BMW PGA Championship during the first round due to a knee injury.

World number seven Sergio Garcia has been forced to pull out of the BMW PGA Championship on day one of the tournament due to a knee injury.

The first day's play at Wentworth has been suspended twice due to rain, but Garcia opted to end his campaign altogether after carding an opening one-over 73.

The 34-year-old was among the favourites heading into the tournament after clinching two titles and three top-three finishes in the last seven months.

"I've felt better from resting [my knee] on Monday and Tuesday, but I guess from walking on it - going up and down hills today, its been pinching," Sky Sports News quotes Garcia as saying.

"With the US Open coming up, I don't want it to get worse. I'm sure I'll have to get some anti-inflammatories."

Thomas Bjorn currently leads the way after scoring eight birdies and an eagle to equal the course record.
