Rickie Fowler has won his maiden PGA Tour title after securing a playoff victory in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
The 23-year-old, whose only other professional win came at the Korea Open in October, shot a 3-under 69 to finished tied with Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points on 14-under for the championship.
There was a silver lining for the Northern Irishman, who returned to the summit of the world rankings after achieving a finish within the top seven.
Fowler claimed the title on the first playoff hole, dialling in an exquisite iron shot at the 18th to leave himself three feet from the cup.
When both Points and McIlroy failed with their long birdie putts, Fowler tapped in for a momentous victory.
The best score of the day came from Lee Westwood, who carded seven birdies during his final-round 66, finishing on 11-under for the week.
