European Ryder Cup-winning captain Jose Maria Olazabal has described Tom Watson as a "fantastic choice" to lead America at the 2014 tournament.
The 63-year-old, who previously captained the USA to glory in 1993, was confirmed as the successor to Davis Love III on Thursday.
"Tom has all the elements," said Olazabal. "He has been in that role before, he has been a player at the Ryder Cup, so he has all the ingredients needed to do the job.
"For Gleneagles in 2014, he is a fantastic choice. Clearly he is going to appeal to the Scottish crowds, who respect Tom and everything he represents."
Watson's last triumph as captain came at The Belfry 19 years ago.
