Tom Watson has been named as the USA captain for the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, replacing Davis Love III.
Watson will become the States' oldest Ryder Cup captain in what will be his second captaincy after leading the nation to victory in 1993 at the Belfry.
The US capitulated in September on home soil to lose for the fourth time in five attempts, which has led to a change of approach from the Professional Golfers' Association of America.
The PGAA have previously opted for former major winners in their mid- to late-40s, but Watson will be 65 when the tournament comes round in two years' time.
Watson said earlier in the week that he would be keen to take on the role again.
