Monaco's Radamel Falcao accused of lying about age

Reports in Colombia accuse Radamel Falcao of saying that he is two years younger than he actually is.

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has been accused of lying about his age after reports in Colombia appeared to show a different date of birth while he was in primary school.

Falcao was believed to be 27 due to his registered date of birth with FIFA, although records from his school days seem to show that he was born on February 10, 1986 - two years after the date on official records.

If the report is true, then Falcao would have appeared in the Under-20 World Cup as an overage player as well as helping his country win the 2005 South American Under-20 Championship at the age of 21.

It would also raise questions over his big-money move to Monaco this summer, who could feel aggrieved at paying £53m for a 29-year-old who they thought was 27.

Falcao's father denies the claims and believes that the confusion has come about through a clerical error at the school.

Taribo West was also accused of lying about his age earlier this year, with the former Inter Milan defender reportedly saying he was 28 when he was actually 40 years old.
