Chelsea to ban 'idiot' coin-throwers

Chelsea promise to hand lifetime bans to supporters who threw coins at Manchester City players during Sunday's FA Cup clash.

Chelsea have insisted that they will attempt to hunt down and ban "idiotic" supporters who threw coins at Manchester City players during today's FA Cup game at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues eventually thumped their rivals 5-1 thanks to four second-half goals, but a section of fans reacted by hurling coins at City teenager David Faupala when he found an equaliser in the 37th minute.

The incident came a day after West Bromwich Albion's Chris Brunt was struck by a coin by one of his own fans at the end of the Baggies' 3-1 loss at Championship side Reading.

"We condemn such idiotic and dangerous behaviour and if we can identify those responsible then we will ban them from Stamford Bridge," said Chelsea press officer Steve Atkins after the match.

"It's worth noting it's a criminal offence, too and we will support any police prosecution if we can identify, along with the police, those individuals responsible for that behaviour today."

Chelsea will go on to face Everton at Goodison Park in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
