Fenerbahce pay for young Manchester United fan to meet Robin van Persie

Fenerbahce pay for a young Manchester United supporter to fly out to Turkey to meet Robin van Persie after the five-year-old burst into tears when the striker left.

Fenerbahce have paid for a young Manchester United supporter to fly out to Turkey to meet Robin van Persie after the boy was reduced to tears when the Dutchman left Old Trafford.

A video of five-year-old Louis Diamond crying upon discovering that Van Persie had signed for the Turkish outfit last month went viral.

Fenerbahce fans spotted the clip and decided to set up an online fundraising campaign hoping to raise enough money to fly Louis to Turkey to meet the striker.

The campaign caught the attention of club president Aziz Yildirim, who has arranged for Louis and his family to watch Fenerbahce's Turkish Super Lig opener against Eskisehirspor tonight and meet Van Persie after the game.

"We want to thank Fenerbahce and the president for making this happen," The Guardian quotes Louis's father Sam as saying. "We can't wait to see Robin van Persie play."

The Dutchman signed a three-year deal with Fenerbahce.
