Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been backed by punters to scoop the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2014.

The England skipper is in contention to win his first Premier League title at the age of 33 as Liverpool currently have a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Boylesports have revealed that Gerrard is now 4/6 to be handed the SPOTY gong in December, while Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton is currently 7/2 to take the honour.

The midfielder is also in the running to be crowned the PFA Players' Player of the Year after making the shortlist alongside teammates Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
